Surprise YA Book Box Order Requests!

Looking for YA Books to support your library’s collection, outreach, and/or giveaway supply? Check out BAYA’s Surprise YA Book Box!

Bay Area Young Adult Librarians (BAYA) was founded as a literary non-profit that regularly receives books from publishers for review and other use. We regularly have a few carts available worth of YA fiction at any given time. To help with funding BAYA, we sell these books at a price of $1 per book. ARCs and Galleys are always free to members and guests.

Normally we only sell these books at our annual in-person meeting in March, but not all members and interested guests can attend. To off-set this, BAYA will now offer Surprise YA Book Boxes, as supply is available.

How It Works

  1. Complete the Surprise YA Book Box Google Form as linked.
    1. The form requests your contact information, mailing address, number of boxes requested, genres you’d like if available, and how you’ll pay.
  2. Then email bayalibrarian @ gmail.com to notify us that you have completed the form.
  3. We’ll then email you back with a timeline, payment options, and an invoice.
    1. The timeline will include when payment should be received and when you should expect your box to be mailed.
  4. Once payment is received, your box will be packaged and mailed.
    1. Packaging and mailing occurs on one Monday each odd month of the year. The timeline you receive will cover which day your box(es) can next be packaged.

Cost, Details & Restrictions

  • Each box of 20 books will cost $40
  • Books are still $1.
  • Additional cost comes from an estimated $15 in shipping fee and covering box and tape purchasing on our end.
  • Prices are non-negotiable and current set.
  • We currently only ship to addresses within California.
  • ARCs & Galleys cannot be requested but may be thrown in at no additional cost to the requester.
  • If BAYA runs out of inventory, this blog post will be updated and the request form will be closed. When inventory returns, we’ll update the blog, reopen the request form, and notify membership and current guests.

How BAYA Uses Funds from Boxes Sold

BAYA is a 501 C-3 Literary Nonprofit. All funds received from the sale of these boxes goes to funding operations (such as the website), award, and future grant support. Time and labor to make and ship these boxes are donated by members of BAYA.
