Librarian I: $6,656 – $6,975 – $7,309 – $7,661 – $8,030/per month
Librarian II: $7,368 – $7,723 – $8,095 – $8,486 – $8,896 /per month
Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Farsi, or American Sign Language is
desirable but not required.
The duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide library services to teens and their families with enthusiasm and
motivation. - Visit middle schools and high schools to promote library resources.
- Select and maintain teen materials and graphic novel collections.
- Plan, develop, and facilitate teen programs to increase library attendance
and teen circulation. - Recruit, manage, coordinate, and lead Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs) to
assist in library events and programs.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will exemplify the following knowledge, skills, experience, and
characteristics:
- Demonstrated ability to provide accurate information services across diverse
media; skilled in assisting patrons with resource selection and reference
inquiries. - Experience planning and organizing teen activities, outreach, reference
programs, or specialized programs like youth services, electronic services, or
collection development. - Demonstrates initiative in staying current through relevant training or
coursework; adept in using library systems, databases, word processing, internet
research, and other office tools.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Librarian I – One year of municipal library experience is desirable.
Librarian II – Two years of professional level Librarian experience equivalent
to the Librarian I classification. Public Library experience is desirable.
Education:
Librarian I – A Master’s degree in Library Science or related field from an
accredited college or university is required. A Bachelor’s degree in a related
field and three years of professional librarian experience may substitute for
the advanced degree. Successful completion of a Master’s degree in Library
Science or satisfactorily meeting the substitution criteria is required prior to
the completion of the probationary period. A Master’s degree in Library
Science and course work in specific area of work assignment is highly
desirable.
Librarian II – Equivalent to a Master’s degree in Library Science, Library and
Information Science, or a related field from an accredited college or
university.
License: May require a valid California Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving
record as determined by the City.
Other Requirements: Willingness and ability to work scheduled and emergency
overtime; be available on call, as required; attend evening meetings; and travel out
of town and attend meetings, seminars, and conferences during work and non-work
hours.
Special Requirements: Essential duties require the mental and/or physical ability to
read fine print; converse in person and on the telephone and be clearly understood;
operate a computer keyboard; stoop, bend, reach, and stretch; and strength to
safely lift and maneuver books, bins, and office equipment weighing up to 40
pounds.
