At our September meeting we talked about Supporting Your Teens Post HS: College, Career & Beyond. Our presentation was by three speakers, all from San José Public Library:
Eboni Harris – Master Class, Jessica Chung – San José Public Library – Why College?, and Jessica Lundin – San José Public Library – ARTrepreneurs, Cooking & College, Life & Coffee for New Adults.
The recording of the presentation can be found here, on our unlisted YouTube Channel. Slides from the meeting, including presentation, can be found here. The meeting minutes can be found here.
During our BAYA Business portion, President Megan Maloy and Secretary Jessica Lundin presented the new structure and proposed new bylaws for Bay Area Young Adult Librarians created with the suggestions made during our July Membership Meeting. The proposed new BAYA Bylaws can be viewed here for review. The biggest changes to the structure of BAYA from the current bylaws are highlighted in magenta for easier review. These new Bylaws will be voted on and approved by membership at the upcoming November meeting.

Additionally, membership were asked to instate our current Treasure and long-time supporter of BAYA, Beth Wreen-Estes as an Honorary Member of BAYA as she is resigning after this year’s term. The motion was moved by Kirstin, seconded by Erik, and, with unanimous vote by present active members, adopted.
Beth was presented with a small framed certificate to commemorate her new membership status within BAYA on Friday, September 16, 2025. We congratulate and thank Beth for her long-time work and support of Bay Area Teen Library Services.
Book & Program Share-Out
- Twilight is Back – YouTube live-streamed all of the movies for 7 days straight. The 20th anniversary was last week in Forks, Oregon. Planning a Twilight program.
- Coffeeshop in an Alternate Universe by C.B. Lee – If you need a cozy, sapphic break from the world full of nerdery, this is it! I’m also in the holds queue for Grave Flowers by Autumn Krause which I’m incredibly excited to read.
- Flip by Ngozi Ukazu (Graphic Novel) – Having a crush on and prom-posals with a body switch, where they’re flip-flopping back and forth but the more it goes on the longer the flips stay in place. Highly recommended. Mentioned on Book Riots, All the Books!
- Angelica & the Bear Prince by Trung Le Nguyen – Graphic novel by the same author as The Magic Fish. “Being a teenager is no fairy tale . . . but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a little magic. A high schooler’s journey to recover from burnout leads to a surprising romance with a twist…” – From publisher’s website.
- The Unfinished by Cheryl Isaac – Is great for the spooky season and Halloween with a sequel coming out soon.
- The Invisible Wild by Nikki Van De Car – Magical Hawaiian folklore. There are so few published by native Hawaiian authors.
- Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis – A new YA vampire book. It has Vampire Diaries energy. Author and main character are Black. Very nostalgic for vampire novels but with the Black experience.
- Momo Arashima Steals the Sword of the Wind by Misa Sugiura – was described as a Japanese Percy Jackson by the booksellers for middle grade readers.
- Raising from the Ashes by Paula Yoo – Korea Town during the LA Uprising/Riots. Really well done. Lots of others seconded this recommendation.
- Sisters in the Wind by Angeline Boulley – Not a sequel to Fire Keepers Daughter, takes place about 5 years after the events. Very well done. You will cry. Talks about the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) of 1978.
- Dandadan (Anime) – Was crazy popular this year and so your teens might be looking for the manga.
- K-Pop Club (Program) – I have a monthly K-pop Club for teens that are super popular. We swap photo cards and random dance party.
